UK: Selected by Tesco range now available in all One Stop stores
One Stop has launched its new Selected by Tesco range across all its stores with a brand redesign that illustrates the link between One Stop own-label fresh food and parent company Tesco. There are now more than 160 products in the Selected by Tesco range of chilled food products, including fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, dairy, ready meals and desserts, which are stamped with a new Selected by Tesco logo, in all One Stop stores.

South Africa's Massmart in talks to close Game stores in East, West Africa
Retailer Massmart Holdings said that it had begun staff consultations about closing its Game stores in East and West Africa, after efforts to find domestic buyers for the stores failed. Massmart Chief Executive Officer Mitch Slape said last year that it was in discussions to sell all its Game stores in Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania to stem losses in that struggling part of its business. "Massmart initiated a process over a 12-month period to investigate... the opportunity to sell our East and West African stores to local investors. Unfortunately, this initiative did not deliver a meaningful outcome," the company said in a statement.

Ireland: The "Lidl Farm" opens for free school tours
Lidl officially opened an exciting new venture which has seen the retailer develop a farm experience where schools can visit and children can learn important lessons about growing fruit and vegetables. Using lands at its Newbridge distribution centre in County Kildare, supported by Agri Aware and one of its key suppliers Meade Farm, the retailer has turned 8.5 acres of land into a free educational resource. Visitors will be brought into a specially made facility to learn about how the retailer sources local produce, how crops grow and then will get a practical demo of crop growing.

Woolworths Group has announced 3 key leadership changes within its non-food retail and Woolworths Food Company businesses. The Group has announced that it is bringing the Woolworths Food Company (Woolworths own and exclusive brand food business) together with Greenstock (upstream meat business), the PFD Food Services partnership and Australian Grocery Wholesalers under the leadership of Managing Director, Guy Brent. Woolworths Group also announced the appointments of Daniel Hake as Managing Director of BIG W and Von Ingram as Managing Director of the Group’s non-food retail businesses including BIG W, the recently acquired MyDeal, HealthyLife and PetCulture.

South Africa: Pick n Pay surges as Boxer, price hikes boost profit
Shares in Pick n Pay surged almost 7% after the retailer flagged double-digit sales and earnings growth supported by a strong performance from its value brand Boxer and higher prices. Pick n Pay expects sales growth of 11.5% for the 26 weeks ended 28 August, with like-for-like sales up some 7.4%.

South Africa: Pick n Pay grocery deliveries launch on Takealot’s Mr D app
Pick n Pay and Takealot Group have started testing grocery deliveries in the Mr D app, the companies announced. They are piloting the PnP Groceries on Mr D service in specific areas in Cape Town and Johannesburg and intend to rapidly expand to 300 stores nationwide by December 2022.

India: Retail chain D-Mart's Q2 revenue jumps 35.7% to Rs 10,384.66 crore
Avenue Supermarts Ltd, which owns and operates retail chain D-Mart, has reported a 35.75% rise in standalone revenue from operations to Rs 10,384.66 crore for the second quarter of the current fiscal. The company had revenue from operations of Rs 7,649.64 crore in the year-ago period, according to a regulatory filing.

SPAR Spain grows SPAR Express store portfolio
August saw the opening of SPAR Spain partner Líderaliment’s new SPAR Express store in the port city of Huelva. Four employees oversee the store, which has self-service areas with meat, fruit and vegetables, fish, bread, as well as a delicatessen and frozen foods area. SPAR Spain partner Ignacio de las Cuevas in September opened three SPAR Express stores in the northwest of Spain, two in Ourense and one in Pontevedra. In Ourense, the first new SPAR Express has opened in the municipality of Maside and, more recently, the second SPAR Express in Vilardevós. In Vilardevós, the 140m² SPAR Express store offers fresh fruit and vegetables, a bakery and a delicatessen area.
