Nearly 6,000 solar panels ensures energy-neutral process at Dutch wholesaler

In the Netherlands, the roof of fruit and vegetable wholesaler Kraaijeveld has been transformed into a solar park: 5,930 solar panels have been installed to capture the sun's energy, converting that into power. This project contributes to the company's vision of a sustainable future, it reports.

Roof transformed
When the business relocated seven years ago, sustainability was high on its wish list. The 23 cold rooms, large conditioned storage warehouse, and machinery use plenty of electricity every day. Management, therefore, thought it would be a good idea to operate energy-neutrally. When the 20,000m2 roof needed renewing, it seemed a good time to install solar panels.

More than enough
The solar panels generate 2,164,450 Watt peak energy. Kraaijeveld has thus achieved its goal of being energy-neutral and then some. Plus, the office roof still has space for more panels. "We're considering the possibilities of generating energy there too," says a company representative.

Electrical working and driving
The business is not only taking a sustainable course with its solar panels. In 2021, Kraaijeveld started replacing the vehicles in its fleet with electric versions. Since then, they have installed more than 30 charging stations, allowing visitors and staff ample room to recharge their vehicles' batteries.
