Julien Crémer, Sud ImpEx:

“Our wild mushrooms are the flagship product of the season”

Sud ImpEx offers a wide range of fresh products and the company is also specialized in the supply, selection and distribution of wild mushrooms. “We work with different mushroom collection points in France and abroad. The most well-known are located in the Drôme, Lozère and Vosges departments,” explains Julien Crémer, manager of Sud ImpEx.

A wide range of wild mushrooms
In an effort to diversify and better satisfy its clients, the company now markets a wide range of mushrooms, including the most noble cep varieties like the Bordeaux Cep (boletus edulis), the Bronze Cep (boletus aereus) and the Pine Cep (boletus pinicola), as well as the entire range of small mushrooms: yellow and grey chanterelles, hedgehog mushrooms, purple mousserons, meadow mousserons, lactarius mushrooms, Caesar’s mushrooms…

The truffle: a specialty of Sud ImpEx
From its base in Perpignan, Sud ImpEx works on the mushrooms for distribution in Europe and calibrates the chanterelles and the ceps to meet the demands of its clients (supermarkets, restaurants, starred tables). But the company has also specialized in an exceptional product known to all: the truffle. “In order to enhance our mushroom range, we have also specialized in fresh truffles, with the black truffle (tuber melanosporum) and the white Alba truffle from Italy (tuber magnatum pico), mainly sold around the Christmas holidays.”

During the rest of the year, Sud ImpEx also sometimes offers summer truffles (tuber aestivum) to its clients. “This truffle is less popular in France, unfortunately. In Italy, which consumes the most mushrooms in the world, this variety is very much appreciated for its exceptional taste qualities and delicious hazelnut smell.”

A new packaging to enhance and protect the truffle
In order to protect and enhance this rare product, the company has designed a brand new packaging. “The truffle is now presented in a packaging unique to Sud ImpEx and especially designed for mass retail. The packaging has a vacuum bag on the inside to better preserve the product.”
