Dutch refrigeration company project

Unique concept: In Australia, independent ripeners can rent ripening cells

The Dutch refrigeration company, De Laat Koudetechniek, has completed a project in Montague, Australia. "This Australian ripening facility is unique in that independent ripeners can rent ripening cells. They ripen bananas or avocados," says Adriann van Beek.

"Different people use those ripening cells for different products. So allowing those cells to be individually and remotely controlled is crucial. Each ripener can control a room's temperature, airflow, and humidity without having insight into other ripeners' activities."

Each round of ripening is concluded with a buyer's ripening protocol. The system automatically generates that, specifying how and at what temperatures the products were ripened. All the ripening cells use natural coolants.

"Montague chose De Laat Koudetechniek because Australian ripening systems are far more power-intensive than ours. Despite logistical challenges, we managed to prepare the ripening chambers in our warehouse and then assemble them in Australia. That allowed us to realize this project on the other side of the world," Adriaan concludes.
