Starting in 2024, orange and lemon peel will be the main component of Michelin motorcycle racing tires. Matthieu Bonardel, the manager of Michelin, said the company would start making tires with these citrus by-products and that, in the future, they could be used to make standard road tires.
Michelin, which -after having signed a contract with Dorna (the organizer of the World Motorcycling Championship)- is the sole supplier of tires for MotoGP, the highest motorcycle race category, seems determined to take another step in its care of the environment and has a whole roadmap to reduce the impact of its production.
"By 2024, 40% of the materials used to make the tires will be recycled materials. We are carrying out the analysis and development work. The tires will be made out of recycled plastics and orange and lemon peels.”
Michelin also supplies the tires for races in the MotoE specialty, that is, electric motorcycle competitions that have a lot of future in the motorcycle field.
