In 2021, Germany imported 196.5 million kilos of peppers from Spain, accounting for 52.61% of all the peppers that the country imported that year. According to Hortoinfo, sales of Spanish pepper in Germany fell by 16.49% compared to 2020, when they totaled 235.3 million kilos.
As for the value of the shipments, in 2021 exports of Spanish peppers to Germany contracted by 6.35% compared to the previous year to 408.48 million euro. However, the average price in 2021 was €2.08/kg, i.e. 12.43% higher than in 2020 when Spanish peppers were sold at an average price of €1.85/kg.
The Netherlands supplied Germany with a volume of 123.53 million kilos in 2021, i.e. 13.63 million kilos less than in 2020. Dutch pepper exports to the EU stood at 284.84 million euro, with an average price of 2.31 €/kg, i.e. 11.06% more expensive than the Spanish product.
The third supplier of pepper to Germany by volume in 2021 has been Austria, with 11.02 million kilos worth 14.78 million euro and an average price of 1.34 €/kg.
Hungary ranked fourth with 19.5 million kilos, 17.49 million euro, and an average price of 1.85 €/kg.
Morocco ranked fifth with 7.35 million kilos, i.e. 26.46% more than in the previous year, which it sold for 9.91 million euro at an average price of 1.35 €/kg.
