Cologne Wholesale Market: New space requirements for Marsdorf Site

Sluggish site negotiations entering next round

In an amendment to the upcoming council meeting, the Cologne Green and CDU parliamentary groups have instructed the market administration to significantly reduce the proposed land requirement for the fresh produce center in Marsdorf, thereby increasing the chances of implementation.

In the motion, it is planned to offer an area of around 11 hectares for the planned fresh produce center and "fresh produce center-related businesses". This could be located, for example, in the area north of Toyota-Allee. In addition to the environmental and traffic reports to be adapted to this, a market investigation procedure is to take place in order to attract investors for the fresh produce center.

With the size for the fresh produce center presented in the amendment, sufficient space remains in spatial proximity, for example south of Toyota-Allee, for a (partial) relocation of the expansion buildings of 1. FC Köln previously planned at the Geißbockheim. This is to be examined with the application and evaluated. The market administration is also to develop a timetable showing how, under these new conditions, the fresh produce center can become a reality by the end of 2025.
