Hans Maagendans, Banafood:

"Green banana market currently better than yellow one"

Banana sales aren't great at the moment. That's according to Hans Maagendans of Banafood in Germany. "That's something that's happening more often toward Sinterklaas week. People prefer to buy mandarins and chocolate letters then."

"There are currently enough bananas. There was more supply than in other years. And at present, the green market is noticeably better than the yellow one. I think this rather difficult market will continue for a while. The time of more bananas being eaten during the festive season is long gone."

"I think the year-end spending pattern will be completely different. In other years many people were away on winter or Christmas holidays. This year, everyone's home. That's why I expect an upturn in week 51/52 compared to other years. Online sales will also be a lot higher, Hans concludes.
