Richard Strijbis, Tovano:

"Snack figs are very popular"

The dried subtropical fruit and nut business has become more of a year-round enterprise than it was before. Despite this, many nut traders get excited when the weather starts to turn colder. "It is always a good time. The new harvest of figs, dates, and apricots has already begun. Soon we will also get the new walnuts in", says Richard Strijbis of Tovano.

Last week, the first Spanish minifigs arrived at this dried subtropical fruit and nut trader, based in Maasdijk, the Netherlands. Yesterday,  the first Turkish figs were on their way. "We sell a good volume every year, especially of the Turkish variety. I am sure that once the new harvest arrives, it will be gone quickly", says Richard.

"The minifigs are perfect as snacks. Our clients, from speciality stores to supermarkets and exporters, do well with them. It is not that clients are not lining up at the door for the first minifigs. We have to create a demand for it. But, once people get to know it, they realize that, with the right effort, they can earn a bit with this product", Richard concludes.
