One Banana has announced the launch of their nutritional food security program “One Banana a Day Makes a Difference” in the desert of La Obrilla, Peru, where One Banana has organic banana plantations.
This project has been implemented in schools in Guatemala with documented success. Approximately 2100 organic bananas have already been distributed to the students of the two primary and secondary levels of the Most Holy Virgin of Guadalupe School in La Obrilla, Peru.
"Once One Banana started its operations in Peru, our objective was to achieve a positive impact among the residents of the area,” said Patricia Cordova Ballesteros, Head of Human Resources n Peru.
“The ‘One Banana a Day Makes a Difference’ program has given us the opportunity to make this goal tangible. Organic bananas have a high nutritional value, which guarantees the physical and mental development of the children, contributing to and enhancing their natural capabilities."
The first delivery of 700 organic bananas occurred mid- October. The second 700 bananas were delivered a week later and the third at the end of the month. This schedule will continue once a week, providing the 627 students of this educational institution with one banana a day to boost their nutrition.
"The project is very nutritious for our children at this crucial stage of development and growth, since it generates energy and vitality for their psychometric development," said Eder Godos, coordinator La Santisima Virgen de Guadalupe – La Obrilla.
