SIPO:

"The Sardinian artichoke harvest has begun"

The artichoke season has started for SIPO, and with the harvest, its brand Sapori del mio Orto will offer two varieties: thorny and tema.

The artichokes are grown on farms specialized in the cultivation of this vegetable in Valledoria (Sassari) and Villasor (Cagliari). The artichokes will be available in options including:
  • 4 cleaned artichoke hearts, without stems, without outer leaves, in filmed trays.
  • 2 filmed thorny artichokes “D.O.P.”
  • Loose thorny and tema artichokes.
Artichokes require a mild and fairly humid climate, but can also resist lower temperatures even around 0 degrees.

The months of July and August are considered the best period for planting both small plants "carduccio" and seeds "ovulo". Harvesting, however, takes place mainly between November and April.
