According to AgroddataPeru, between January and November this year, Peruvian exports of table grapes amounted to US $373,126,354, i.e. 22% less than the US $477,859,540 achieved in the same period of 2015.
In the first 11 months of 2016, Peru exported 176,351,092 kilos of grapes, 18.76% less than the 217,066,283 kilos shipped in the same period of 2015.
Agraria.pe spoke with the general manager of the Association of Table Grape Producers of Peru (Provid), Carlos Zamorano Macchiavello, who said that this fall was due to a decrease in grape production caused by El Niño, and to the change of some seedless grape varieties for the Red Globe, which are in full swing.
"There's been a notorious decline in production in the north because of El Niño and varietal changes, but the campaign will continue until March and we have to see how Ica, which is just beginning, will compensate for this fall," he said.
In this regard, he said that, in the 2016/2017 export season, Peru should have exported at least the same amount of table grapes as it did in the previous season (2015/2016). However, he added, they expected the country to have exported more.
Regarding the entry of Peruvian grapes to new markets, he highlighted that they had managed to re-enter Indonesia, which traditionally was one of the top 10 destinations. Furthermore, the country expects the visit of Vietnamese technicians, who will inspect the fields and processing plants, in January next year.

According to Agrodata, between January and November this year the United States was the main market destination for Peruvian grapes with shipments that amounted to $99,330,000, and accounted for 26.6% of total shipments. The US was followed by the Netherlands with US $50,613,000, Hong Kong with US $41,255,000, China, US $ 36,656,000, the United Kingdom, US $27,759,000, and Thailand with US $12,466,000, among others.
In that period of time, the main exporting companies were: El Pedregal with US $37.3 million (10% of the total), Sociedad Agrícola Rapel 9%, Ecosac Agrícola 6%, Agrícola Don Ricardo 4%, Corporación Agrolatina 4%, Agricola Challapampa 4%, Agro Victoria 3%, Empresa Agrícola San Juan 3%, Exportadora Safco Perú 3%, Procesadora Laran 3%, Sociedad Agrícola Saturno 3%, Procesos Agroindustriales 2%, Sociedad Agrícola Drokasa 2%, Complejo Agroindustrial Beta 2%, Agrícola Yaurilla 2%, and other companies that accounted for 41%.
