Innovative idea to safeguard bees

Bees have been dying out in the past few years, probably due to parasites and an intensive use of pesticides.

British producers may lose hundreds of millions of Pounds if the trend is not reversed - according to scientists, the lack of bees could lead to a collapse of the apple sector.

This would in turn means crops will be more expensive, forcing British producers to turn to other products to compensate.

A UN report stressed the need to find solutions to stop this decline in the number of these pollinators, which are essential for many crops.

3Bee presents the first hi-tech beehive
3Bee developed Hive-Tech, the first beehive to safeguard bees from an increasingly-hostile environment which will enable the monitoring of Apis Mellifera beehives in real time.

It is an innovative electronical monitoring system that provides a large number of information and analyses parameters such as air quality and sound spectrum to detect whether there are any problems, so action can be taken immediately. This new solution is solar powered and completely self-sustainable.

One of the start-up founders reported that "we developed this idea from my studies, which took me to Boston's MIT and Sydney's Centre for quantum computation and communication technology. I saw the attention these countries pay to the environment, bees are the sentinels of biodiversity."

The product was selected by the BCFN foundation (Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition) among the best 10 global ideas for sustainability.

3Bee is currently benefiting from the financing of the Como Chamber of Commerce and is part of "ComoNext". It also set up a crowdfunding campaign to further promote its project.
