Taiwan: US onions destroyed

On November 8, the Taiwanese Food and Drugs Bureau announced that it had encountered a unit of food products that didn't reach the required standards during customs inspections. There was a notification for a batch of US second-rate onions that contained an excessive amount of heavy metals. The importing company of this batch of second-rate onions is 'Shutanda Trading'. The American production factory of the exporter was named as Jaspo Inc.

The brand name of these substandard food products is 'Horse Heaven'. A concentration of cadmium was measured at 0.07 ppm. This exceeds the regulated limit of 0.05 ppm that Taiwan applies for residual traces. The total volume of the batch that didn't meet the importing standards is 24,586 kg. The whole batch will either be sent back or destroyed and buried.
