Red Dot Award for Elbe-Obst

Apple packaging given second life as children’s toy

An apple packaging from German sales organisation Elbe-Obst has won an award during the prestigious Red Dot Awards in the Communication Design category this year. It concerns two cardboard packagings for three kilograms of apples. When the apples have been eaten, the box does not have to be recycled, but can be folded into a cheerful children’s toy. Two versions are on the market: a tough fire station garage and a pretty princess castle. Just like the contents, the packaging is locally sourced. Smurfit Kappa Deutschland produces the boxes while the design is by Icon Mediendesign from Stade. The packaging has been chosen from more than 17,000 submissions from 46 countries.
