Brazil becomes the main destination for Chilean fruit in the region

Historically, Colombia was the main destination for Chilean grapes, apples and pears in the region. However, Colombia has now been displaced by Brazil.

Latin America is Chile's third largest target market, as it receives 510,365 tons of Chilean fruit, i.e. 21% of total exports. Within the region, Brazil received 138,902 tons of fresh fruit, i.e. 38.9% more than in the previous season. It was followed by Colombia, which had a 5.7% decrease in imports, as it went from importing 114,036 tons last season, to 107,523 tons this season.

According to the president of the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (ASOEX), Ronald Bown, "Brazil recorded the highest growth in shipments with 39%. Despite its economic problems, the Brazilian market has grown by 59% in the past four seasons, mainly because of apple shipments, which in the same period have quadrupled and account for 50% of the fresh fruit Brazil imports from Chile."
