Christiaan van Ravenswaaij: “First crates in transit”

“Good season Ivory Coast mangos expected”

The Ivory Coast mango season is about to start again. Several crates of Amelie mangos are in transit, and they will arrive at Van Ravenswaaij in Veenendaal in week 15. Christiaan van Ravenswaaij personally went to the Ivory Coast to check on the harvest two weeks ago. “Expectations are high. The fruits had ideal conditions, with timely rain and good temperatures.”

“As of last weekend, the Kent season started in the Ivory Coast. People started picking the fruits from 1 April and are still doing so now. I expect the first airplane-mangoes to arrive at the end of the week,” Van Ravenswaaij explains. According to the importer, air freight has not yet reached normal levels because of the attacks in Brussels. “Air traffic is diverted to other airports, but the situation could change per day.”

“The first crates will probably depart this week only to arrive on the Dutch market in week 16 time. That is a week earlier than last year. Currently the market for mangos is very good, so I expect a decent start to the mango season,” Van Ravenswaaij concludes.
