Hayward-Kiwis from Greece

At Christmas the kiwi market will revive again

"The demand at the moment is rather quiet," explains an importer from Southern Germany, "But we expect an increase in the customers demand in the last weeks before Christmas." The trader gets his products from Greece among other countries. "At the moment we are importing Hayward Kiwis from Greece again," states the fruit expert, "We are very satisfied with the quality."

Greece is the second largest Kiwi producer in Europe. The experts think that the Kiwi production will increase once more this year. Up to 30,000 metric tons could be harvested. The increased acreage is the cause of the increased production.

"The trade is very quiet at the moment," explains the expert, "I can't give an exact reason, but it could be the unusual mild weather." The trader waits for the Christmas holidays. "In the next few weeks we expect a revival of the market again."

Greece's largest competitor in Kiwi production is Italy these days. The harvest of the season 2015/2016 of Italian Kiwis is estimated around 495,505 metric tons.
