At the Nanjing fruit and vegetable market 1,600 tons of fresh produce have been traded in 2015 so far. Seasonal fruits such as apples, citrus and pears are selling at low prices. It is expected that prices go up in the weeks towards the Chinese New Year and Spring festival. However, sudden oversupply could bring prices down.
Import cherries from Australia
Cherries and strawberries have just entered the market. Import cherries from Chile are sold at around 100 Yuan per kilogram. When the season just started prices were as high as 1,350 Yuan for a box of 5 kg.
Market forecasts predict cherry prices to come down to 30 Yuan per kg in the weeks before the Spring Festival. This is driven by low shipment costs and an increased supply of cherries.
Apples, pears and citrus are popular products on the market. Apples from Shandong and Xinjiang are sold at 4 to 10 Yuan per kg.
