First Fair Trade pineapples Panama in January

In 2003 HPW was the first in the world to supply the markets with Fair Trade pineapples from Ghana. And the Swiss company is still the largest supplier of Fair Trade pineapples from Ghana. And now the Swiss Fair Trade pioneer brings, together with the farmers of the Tropical Fruit Company, the first Fair Trade Panama pineapples on the market.

In January the new Fair Trade Panama pineapples will arrive every week by ship in Rotterdam. The main buyer is the Swiss supermarket Coop. Coop decided to exclusively sell Fair Trade exotic fruit in 2015.

Still products available
“And we have sufficient products available, in several sizes, for other supermarkets,” states the spokesperson of the company, “We can offer interested parties a customized offer.”

Ecological production
The producer of the Panama pineapples is Tropical Fruit Company and has a GlobalGap certification. Tropical Fruit has about 30 employees and was founded by Dora Espinoza seven years ago. With a lot of passion and enterprising spirit she leads the farm. The cultivation in the province Chiriqui distinguishes itself by its ecological production methods. Hedges, small forests and rivers are part of the farm. This ecosystem provides natural protection against diseases and pests.
