Biggest Fair-trade fan

Ambassador nominated for Fair-trade Awards

Once a year Fair-trade International honors producers, coworkers, traders and individuals who have committed themselves in an outstanding way to Fair-Trade and the Fair Trade ideal with the Fair-trade Awards. In the category “Biggest Fair-trade fan” the award goes to an individual who personally has committed themselves to Fair-Trade.



Manfred Holz has engaged himself with the Fair-trade movement in Germany from the beginning. He is honorary ambassador for the Fair-trade movement and over the years he has developed many new ideas to engage new partners for Fair-trade. And those partners come from of every walk of life, scientist and politicians from every political party, religion.

His philosophy: "Think globally - act locally"
Thanks to his efforts several associations for coworkers and Fair-trade were founded. And since the foundation of TransFair in 1992 Manfred Holz is one of the supporters of certified Fair-trade and helped to develop a political and strategic approach to Fair-trade. 

From 2007 to 2011 Manfred Holz was board member at TransFair: From the beginning he worker with the vision that is not only widely known by Fair-trade "insiders", but has become a worldwide social movement that tries to achieve a fairer world. True to his life’s motto "Think globally - act locally", he has contributed significantly to get Fair-trade out of the niche into the mainstream and daily consumption patterns. His tireless efforts were even awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz, a medal of merit in June 2011.

Fair-trade experience 
Thanks to his good relations with the Catholic Church the Fair-trade system was introduced in many congregations. Countless campaigns and activities, such as the Fair-trade breakfast, the Banana Fair-day and the Fair Trade Week, the level of awareness of Fair-trade has greatly increased in Germany. Manfred Holz has always been involved with creative ideas to make Fair Trade come to life for German consumers. As an official honorary ambassador of TransFair he awarded the label "Fair-trade Town" to more than 200 towns and has travelled more than 96,000 km through Germany on behalf of Fair-trade alone. For years his moving lectures and speeches have motivated all sorts of audiences and listeners to get involved in Fair-Trade. But even convinced Fair-trade supporters make new suggestions to further improve their initiatives.

From 3 December 2015 people can vote online for Manfred Holz as the “Biggest Fair-trade fan”.
