Bioplastics an environmentally friendly packaging material

Sustainable production is a fundamental characteristic of organic food. But how environmentally friendly is the packaging material of processed organic food? Can plastics be used and which types? The new bioplastics tool on the Association of Organic Food Producers (AÖL) website can answer these questions. The project is funded by federal funds of the program "Renewable natural resources" of the Federal Department of Agriculture (BmEL). The tool is designed to help producers to find the appropriate bioplastics for its own product.

What are bioplastics?
Bioplastics are plastics based on sustainable natural resources. They are different from conventional plastics since they aren’t made from oil, are a finite fossil fuel, and they are biodegradable.
