Good news for fruit sector
Secretary of State Van Dam: "This offers new opportunities for our growers. We worked hard with the sector to be able to sell Dutch fruit to Vietnam. This opportunity is a welcome alternative due to the Russian embargo. It is good that we can take this step forward."
Demand for young plants and seeds increasing
The interest for the three Dutch products now permitted is growing in Vietnam. This was shown in September during a trade mission organised by the Netherlands. Vietnamese importers and supermarket chains are seriously interested in apples and pears from our country and are ready to place the first orders. Due to the growth of their own horticultural sector in Vietnam the demand for starting material such as young plants and seeds is also growing.
Negotiations finalised
Over the last year there was extra effort put into gaining access to the Vietnamese market. In September the Vietnamese authorities visited the Netherlands. In close consultation with the umbrella organisations involved (GroentenFruit Huis, NFO en Plantum), various companies were visited, including growers in the Betuwe and exporters in top fruit and planting material. Last week the negotiations between the Dutch ministry of Economics and the Vietnamese ministry of Agriculture about the plant health demands made in order to export were finalised.
