China is Russia's main source for import garlic and onions

According to the Russian Business Consulting Website, Russia imported 419,000 tons of onion and garlic in 2014, an increase of 38.7%. The import value amounted to 253 million American Dollars, an increase of 24.9%. The amount of garlic and onions imported from China was 129,980 tons, with a value of 1.0022 billion American Dollars. Second largest source of import is the Netherlands with a total amount of 105,500 tons and a value of 57.49 million American Dollars.

From January to May 2015, Russia's total onion and garlic import was 216,000 tons, worth 117 million American Dollars. In May 2015 Russia imported 98,400 tons of onion and garlic, a decrease of 14.8% over the same period last year. The import value is estimated at 45.41 million American Dollars, a drop of 22.9% compared with the same period last year.
