Spain: Strawberry production starts in Huelva

Grufesa's early strawberry varieties are already becoming productive and the cooperative's preparations for the new campaign are already underway.

With the planting stage complete, the plants are already prepared to bloom and are starting to bear fruit after the plastic has been set up in the tunnels, where the optimal conditions are created for the plant to grow, bloom and for the flowers to become strawberries. The first fruits, of early varieties, are already starting to pop up in the fields.

As explained by technician Manuel Jesús Martínez, Grufesa will keep the same number of plants this campaign in their 440 hectares of crops. The planting started with the selection and transfer of the best plants from the nursery, located in the province of Avila, to Moguer. This is done in October, so the plant can benefit from the lower temperatures after the summer, and the process has lasted for about twenty days.
