Stemilt’s Blender Bike tours Schnucks Markets

Following PMA’s Fresh Summit, Stemilt’s Blender Bike hit the road for a 4 day tour of Schnucks Markets promoting Stemilt’s Fresh Blenders. What is a Blender Bike you might ask? Quite simply, it’s a bicycle that uses pedal power to operate a blender. It’s also super-fun and captured the attention of customers of all ages while touring Schnucks stores. The bike also brings lifestyle together with healthy living in a fun and obvious way.

Fresh Blenders by Stemilt Growers are a perfect value-priced solution for consumers who love to juice or create smoothies at home. Packaged in convenient grab-and-go re-sealable pouches, Fresh Blenders contain five pounds of apples in two flavor profile offerings, sweet and tart. Fresh Blenders are available year-round in both Sweet and Tart varieties. Each bag has a featured recipe and QR code linking to Stemilt’s website for a variety of juicing and smoothie recipes.

Stemilt’s Fresh Blenders appeals to the millennial and baby boomer generations, who are focused on fresh, healthy food, calling out the antioxidants found in apples, along with fiber and Vitamins C and A. Fresh Blenders recipes use apples with the skin on, where most of the nutrients are found. Fresh Blender make a great tie in with the much of the produce department to create additional sales in kale, spinach, berries, bananas and so much more.

During the bike tour, Schnucks customers had the opportunity to hop on the bike and run the blender using bicycle power. They also were able to quench their thirst afterwards with a fresh made smoothie created using Fresh Blenders Sweet Blenders Gala apples. The Simple ABC Smoothie recipe, which can be found on Stemilt’s website, was tasted by over 1000 customers during the tour and was deemed, “mmm…” and “delicious,” time and time again.

Fresh Blenders juicing and smoothie recipe program was designed by dieticians ensuring nutritional balance and of course, great taste!

Starting from Stemilt’s Midwest HQ in Chicago the bike traveled to Schnucks stores in Illinois including Champaign, Urbana, Montvale and Edwardsville finishing in St. Louis with stops at Schnucks downtown Culinaria store Hampton Village and ending with much fanfare on Halloween at the Des Peres store.

“I was really amazed how many customers told me they are currently juicing or making smoothies at home. In particular, the kids really seemed to be on board with drinking smoothies,” said Jocelyn Gerard, Merchandise Manager for Stemilt, “even on Halloween.”
For Halloween, Schnucks Des Peres had a costume contest for Store Associates and this only added to the fun. Witches, fairies and even a Stemilt “Apple” took the Blender Bike for a spin. Keep your eyes out for the Blender Bike.
