Peru: Most exported ag products 2014

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, agricultural exports between January and October this year amounted to US $4,130 million, 23% more than in the same period of 2013 when they amounted to $3,370 million, driven by demand for non-traditional products.

The items in greatest demand were fresh avocados with $307 million, fresh grapes, $294 million, and quinoa, which grew the most when compared to the previous year, with 160 million dollars. Other products that increased their sales were the fresh mangoes, with $120 million and over 26% of variation and the Cavendish Valery bananas, with $96 million and over 30% variation, among others.

Peru exported its products to 155 countries in this period, 9 more than in the same period last year. The US remains the main destination with 28% of the total, followed by the Netherlands (12%), Germany (7%), Spain (5%), and Ecuador (5%).

Finally, the Minagri noted that there had been a trade surplus of $471 million dollars during this period as sales totalled $4.13 million dollars and imports amounted to $3.659 million dollars. The surplus was the result of the increased placements of non-traditional agricultural products (especially fruit and vegetables).
