"Italy: "Ruble and oil worry post ban"

There is a colossal battle between Western countries and Russia and the food and agricultural sector was the most affected. Even those sectors that seemed to have escaped the consequences of the ban now risk being affected.

It is the case of nursery gardeners, who have, so far, continued to work with Eastern countries and Russia. Michelangelo Leis, director of Vivai Mazzoni and breeder for CIV - Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti explained that "the situation is getting complicated now both the Russian and Ukraine currencies have been devalued. In addition, the price of oil and gas have dropped."

Michelangelo Leis.

There are some conspiracy theories going round the decrease in the price of oil - the US are suspected of extracting more oil with Saudi Arabia, damaging Iran and Russia.

As regards their taking part in Interpoma 2014, the director said that they have met "many producers from the US, southern hemisphere, Poland and Ukraine. The Polish in particular are interested in finding an alternative market. I believe we could do more to involve company managers from North African countries, as fruit growing is developed over there."
