In Tasmania it’s not unusual to experience all four seasons in one day. "That’s why it is so perfect for growing superior Capsicums in our 3 hectare Greenhouse. The cooler the climate means longer shelf life for our quality produce," explains Director of Tassie Pride, Dr. Johann Van Dijk Joubert, PhD. Situated in the moderate climate on the North West Coast of Tasmania it has a preferred environment for capsicum growing.
Daily temperatures are not too warm and night temperatures not to cold. Yet there is usually enough difference between day and night temperatures to encourage good flower setting. Capsicums prefer a 10°C differential between day and night temperatures with the night temperature around 16.5-17.5°C for good flower setting. Humidity is also an issue. In a perfect world, humidity would be best between 65-85%. Most Australian mainland growing areas struggle to get the humidity between those two parameters in the summer. "Through our 14 years of experience, we’ve found that growing long-term crops commercially is a science. It is all about balance. At Tassie Pride, we find that the best balance is here in Tasmania, " states Dr. Johann Van Dijk Joubert.

Kapiris Bros was formed in 1958 when John Kapiris moved to Melbourne with an emphasis on growing and marketing tomatoes. Kapiris Bros is now in its 3rd generation, specialising in tomatoes, capsicums and rockmelons.
The company produces 800-1200 tons a year depending on yield. This volume goes to the domestic market. "We export to Australia with our main focus on the Australian retail market for our premium glasshouse capsicums."
