Europe Edition
The Seminis Open Days, from 24 to 27 September in Enkhuizen, attracted more than 800 visitors. Seminis took great pride in welcoming plant raisers, consultants, traders, distributors and growers of field vegetables from all over Europe. Visitors took the opportunity to see the large range of Seminis vegetables with their own eyes.
Seminis was pleased with the large attendance. The visitors enjoyed wonderful weather in the field and viewed the different varieties of cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, spinach, leek, onions, carrots and lettuce on display. Most guests took the opportunity to do so with an account manager, a technical advisor or with one of the Seminis seed breeders.
This personal approach gave the Seminis specialists full opportunity to share their knowledge with all visitors and to provide them with valuable advice. They lived up to this year’s theme – Harvesting a bright future – by supporting all partners in the chain with information to succeed and to get the best results possible in their business.
Seminis also organized a Brassica Conference during the event. Over 80 people attended this conference, which was hosted by six professionals in brassica, both from Seminis as well as other organisations such as international universities. Special topics during the conference were vegetable market trends and the benefits of soil control. The growers who attended were especially interested in the live presentations in the field on this last subject.
Dr Hans-Christoph Behr, managing Director of AMI (Agrarmarkt Informations-GmbH) shared his in-depth knowledge on vegetable market trends and updated the visitors on his future expectations. Kevin Walsh (Technical Development Crop Lead Brassica and Leafy at Seminis) demonstrated the effects of density in brassica versus harvesting return per hectare and benefits of reduced head size in quality and logistics. Eight large demo fields of cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli in different densities supported his information. Hans Schepers (Chain Quality lead EMEA in Vegetable Technology Development at Seminis) told the guests all about brassica vegetable quality in the eyes of the consumer and traders.
