Brazil: Organic produce gaining popularity

The cultivation of organic produce in Brazil is gaining popularity with the agricultural community. Some even consider the developing industry of vital importance to the sector and the wellbeing of growers.

Organic produce is also doing well with consumers, who increasingly buy organic. Currently, governments are supporting 46 projects intended to stimulate ecological farming, involving 88,000 farmers and a total of 39 million R$. The technical qualification of young growers and experts has been given priority status by Asistencia Técnica y Extensión Rural (Ater). By 2015, over 100,000 people are expected to be active in the bourgeoning sector.
