Fyffes import more Peruvian bananas

There is more and more interest worldwide in bananas from the Peruvian region Piura. The Peruvian central association of growers of organic bananas (CEPIBO) export about 10 containers per week at the moment, but expect that this will increase in the coming months. Representatives of the European firm 'Fyffes Bananas International' have visited Piura with the idea of buying more bananas from small organised growers.

"We have been cooperating with the association CEPIBO in Peru for 3 years. We are trading with them and want more trade, up to 8 containers per week. The bananas we buy go to the UK and other European countries, where demand is high," Roger Crudge, representative of 'Fyffes' says.

Crudge says that he came from the UK to Peru because Fyffes want to work closer together with the growers. "Bananas grown by CEPIBO are organic and of very good quality. They have surplus value. They are really very special bananas," according to Crudge.
