Brazil: Import of Argentinean produce resumes

Argentinianexport of grapes and citrus will once again be allowed into Brazil. This according to governors Maurice Closs, Sergio Urribarri and José Luis Gioja during a meeting with Dilma Rousseff.

During a bilateral conference the governors advocated an unlocking of existing blockades. Brazil had blocked the import of Argentinian produce earlier because of Phytosanitary guidelines. Opening up the Brazilian market is hugely important to the sector.

Citrus stemming from São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Santa Catarina (regions designated as free of disease) is now allowed in. Brazil is also considering the admission of oranges and mandarins, depending on sanitary conditions being met.
