Recently a new, red-fleshed apple variety has become available on Chilean markets. The apple was developed through traditional means. Growers attempted to create a new daily product with a sweeter taste, good-sized, and an outstanding quality. The new variety will be sold sparingly, as genetic breeding is limited by owners’ patents.
In Chile the distribution rights are owned solely by Unifrutti. As soon as the designated acreage is known, the company will divide some of the production among other growers. Insiders expect the new apple to be widely available within six years.
