According to the general manager of agriculture in the region, Julio Cesar Vicente Salas, producers will be able to export garlic to Brazil for the first time through the Brazilian company BDG. This is possible thanks to the regional management of agriculture and sub-directorate for agri-promotion.
Aurora Gonzales Zamata, leader of Majes irrigation and general manager of the company Agroganadera Universal, an institution which brings together producers, said owners of more than 12 hectares of the crop in the area, will start weekly sales of 2 garlic containers (24 MT each) to Brazil, as of next week until February 2013.
Following what she said, the average export price for a box of 10 kg of Chinese garlic with sizes going from 5 to 7 would be between USD 12 and USD 14 per box, delivered at the port of Santos-Brazil.
Finally, Vicente Salas highlighted the work of the regional government in other crops like the olive and avocado, having achieved the import of 3,800 tons by a Brazilian company in 2013, as a result of increased product quality. This is thanks to technical training in good practice and implementation of specialized plants in the Majes, by the regional government.
