Switzerland: Largest solar power installation at Migros

Migros, Switzerland's largest retailing company, its largest supermarket chain and largest employer, has been given a permit to build the country’s largest-ever PV installation. On the roof of the Migros distribution centre Neuendorf AG a large array of solar panels is installed to provide electricity for 1,000 homes.

The panels, when delivered in spring, will cover a surface of over 7 football fields. The installation will likely be in operation by the summer.

Apart from reducing the use of electricity, renewable energy sources represent a large contribution to the retailer’s ecological policy. Its sustainable program, Generation M, obligates Migros to promote renewable energy. 24 solar installations are already in use on Migros roofs.
