Court process for fire in Groszmarkt in Dusseldorf

Düsseldorf - A 46-year old fruit and vegetable dealer from the German town of Gelsenkirchen is blamed for unintentionally setting fire to his own establishment at the 'Groszmarkt Dusseldorf'. He will have to appear in court this week.

According to the public prosecutor the trader left his storeroom in the afternoon without extinguishing the gas heater. The fire which was the result also spread to the hall. The material damage is about 100,000 Euro. The public prosecutor now blames the trader for arson as a result of negligence. He is thought to have been far too easy-going with the gas heater. The penalty for this could be a jail sentence of maximum five years or a monetary penalty.

About 70 firemen and police were required at the time to extinguish the fire and to close the environment of the fire for traffic. The better part of the roof of the hall burned down.
