Argentina: Moving forward with new peach varieties

With the addition of varieties that mature much earlier and much later than those in the area, the peach industry sector prepares to overcome one of the biggest problems facing operational activity, which is the concentration of fruit at industrial establishments.

The project "Extending the range of the harvest, by incorporating extra early and late maturing varieties," is framed in the context of the Federal Projects for Productive Innovation-production linkages of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Argentina.

The initiative arose from the need to broaden the outlook for the industry's peach varieties, in order to avoid bottlenecks during harvest and subsequent processing in the factory.

Genetic innovation in this sense, is of a strategic character in all producing countries (the U.S, EU, Chile, South Africa, Australia). All of them have their own research lines to generate new varieties and test runs of other varieties developed in other parts of the world adapting to their local conditions.
