Morrisons launch first UK grown supply
"UK: Smitten™ apple "best of New Zealand mixed with best of Britain"
Morrisons has launched the first UK grown Smitten™ apples. The chain has been the exclusive UK supplier of the apples for two years now, but this is the first time that UK grown fruit has been sold.
Smitten™ was developed in New Zealand and, up until now, this is where the stock came from.
Smitten™ is bred by crossing Royal Gala and Braeburn and Fiesta and Falstaff.
A spokesperson for Morrisons said, "It has a combination of the excellent characteristics of all four apples which produce a fantastic eating experience. It is the best of New Zealand mixed with the best of British."
