"Jos Koedooer: "Trade is a bit unclear"

Netherlands: Quiet cabbage market with fairly good prices

Prices are fairly good at the moment for white and red cabbage. The price of white cabbage is around 16/17 cent and red cabbage is just a bit above. However, according to trader Jos Koedooder from Bovenkarspel, there is talk of a quiet market. "The prices are pretty good, but it's not really booming. Some cabbage is going to Eastern Europe, but it is less than I had expected."

"Trade is a bit unclear at the moment. Other buyers are also not showing their hand. It's a bit vague how production is going to play out. Everyone is hard at work harvesting in order to fill up cold storage, but I don't think that they are going to be completely filled this year. I expect shortages this winter and in the spring," says Jos. "Overall, the cabbage is small and has been affected by the large amounts of water."
