Belgium: Willy Wouters returns to Brussels’ Mabru

Fresh Produce company Willy Wouters used to be located in the centre of Brussels, but now it has returned to the spot it left 20 years ago: the Mabru, the wholesale market.

“We’re back,” says Joris Wouters. “My father started focusing on stores, but these made way for buyers in brasseries and restaurants. We are now supplying Brussels itself.”

“Most of the products we deliver ourselves with three vans," the trader continues. "What sets us apart is our good reputation. Over the years we established long-term relationships with our customers. We don’t really specialize in certain products, but offer a full range, basically what the customer requires, we provide. "

"A popular trend now is that the ‘season-feeling’ of certain products is coming back. We haven’t seen that for a while. Customers didn’t really care when the season of certain products was. It was too difficult for them to distinguish what comes when, because nowadays you can get produce almost all year round. But that is coming back."

Joris is positive about the company’s future. “We don’t expect to get huge, but we keep focusing on our customers. With the new location and the new logo we’re ready for it!”
