FACUA-Consumidores en Acción has reported the advertising and sale of Laón Artichoke, sold as a product that will "help you lose up to three kilos per week", to the health and consumer protection authorities.
Spain is one of the leading sellers of this new "miracle product", which is available worldwide and is advertised on "La Tienda en Casa" (home shopping network) and El Corte Inglés, which also sells the product in its stores, according to FACUA's statement.
"The best way to lose up to three kilos in just a week", assures the product's advert in "La Tienda en Casa", where it is presented as "a food supplement elaborated with artichoke hearts which, thanks to its properties, helps detoxify the body and accelerates the burning of fat in a natural way."
The product is sold in seven unit jars at 39.90 Euro, and is 800 times more expensive than other artichoke extracts in the market whose properties, according to FACUA, "are in no case slimming."
FACUA is requesting the authorities to remove the product from the market and apply sanctions to the companies responsible proportionate to the profits they are making with the sales.
