Argentina: Onion harvest begins

Two weeks ago, the onion harvest started in the towns of Esquina, Alvear and La Cruz, in Argentina, with noteworthy production volumes considering that the weather was not ideal during the various development stages of the plant (lack of water in the beginning and too much rain during harvest time).

Work is currently being done on around 20 hectares, but the entire acreage will be harvested in the coming days.

It is worth noting that the price for a bag of onions this season is quite good, reaching $110 in production areas, which raises producer expectations and foreshadows good planting intentions for 2013.

Part of the productive plan's success should also be attributed to the constant assistance from Dirección de Producción Vegetal's technical team, as many towns were venturing for the first time with this crop.
