Vegetable growers from seewinkel go on their own way

About 100 vegetable growers from Seewinkel, in the Austrian state of Burgenland, abandoned after 20 years of cooperation, the eastern Austrian sales company LGV. The growers want to make a new start under a new name.

In 1992, the vegetable growers Seewinkel joined 'LGV Frischgemüse. For almost twenty years they supplied the umbrella organization 'Sonneregion Ostösterreich', which includes growers from Vienna and Lower Austria, with fresh vegetables to east of Austria. This included not only the joint marketing, but they wanted to unite against the competition from abroad.

The paths of LGV and 'Sonnengemüse-Vertriebsgesellschaft' (SGV) are separating now. It is said that for some time there were disagreements between the growers of Seewinkel and the management in Vienna. The official reason: LGV will in the future only grow indoor vegetables with heated cultivation, said SGV Secretary Joseph Peck. "And since the majority of our members are engaged in growing mostly field grown vegetables we decided to leave LGV," said Peck.

Peck welcomes the separation from LGV and the step to independence. The products of approximately 100 vegetable growers will in the future be sold under the name 'Seewinkler Sonnengemüse' in supermarkets.
