15% less onions in EU than last year

After the record harvest of last year, the European onion crop this year is about 15% lower than last year. AMI estimates the onion harvest in the EU-25 - with the exception of Romania and Bulgaria - to be 4.96 million tonnes. Many growers planted less onions after the low prices last season. Notably Austria (-30%), France (-21%), the United Kingdom (-20%) and Spain (-19%) have lower productions. The saleable production in the Netherlands will be about 8% lower. Germany has, according to the AMI a harvest of 441,000 tonnes, 13% less than last season.

De oogstraming kan eventueel nog naar boven worden bijgesteld, omdat de oogsten in Denemarken, Nederland en Frankrijk mee lijken te vallen met 10 tot 20% hogere producties per hectare.

The harvest estimate may possibly still be revised upwards, because the harvest in Denmark, the Netherlands and France, seem to have a 10 to 20% higher production per hectare.
