Germany: Carrots, asparagus, onions chief organic vegetables

The most important vegetable in Germany's organic agriculture is the carrot, followed by the asparagus and the onion. In 2011 the cultivation of organic produce was once again a chief source of income for German growers. Acreage has increased and the share of organic crops in the country's total output is 10%.

These are the conclusions drawn from available data by the Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung. Researchers of this institution gathered data from 22,506 organic companies cultivating a total of 1,015 million hectares. Organic soil takes up about 6.1% of all German territory.
