The discounter Aldi is not allowed to build a new distribution centre in German Gilching near Munich. The plan was quashed by referendum by the inhabitants of Gilching. Because of this Aldi have to write off an amount of Euro 300,000 for notary public expenses and soil research, as mentioned in the local newspaper 'Süddeutsche Zeitung'. The result was very clear: 62% of the population of Gilching voted against the logistic centre of Aldi. Attendance was 53%. Aldi project leader Michael Klöter mentioned that the result was 'surprisingly unambiguous' as per 'Süddeutsche Zeitung'. Aldi now want to start discussions with the neighbouring municipality of Gauting.
Aldi need a new logistic centre, because the present distribution centre in Eichenau is at its limit. In the future 50 branches will be supplied with products from the new logistic centre.
