This summer chicory is not what was expected by growers and traders, but the present situation is also a surprise. "At the moment chicory is expensive, very expensive," Rudi Coosemans explains. Both for local and export people are happy with the market situation. The demand is good and prices are high. Growers and traders needed this after such a difficult summer."
"Prices have been increasing for a few weeks. The Fandria chicory is about 2.40 and when packed 2.50 to 2.60. It is normal that about this time of the year prices are higher, but now it is a lot better than other years. As far as export is concerned much goes to America, Canada and Korea at the moment."
"Whether prices will increase any further, that is difficult to say. Perhaps we have reached the top now, but it is quite possible. Nevertheless it should remain affordable for the consumers, therefore it will not become a lot more extreme."
