Gerard Sevenhuijsen (Tuindersbelang):

"Netherlands: "Low yield, but decent prices on cabbage market"

The demand for cabbage is good this year. "The harvest was relatively low this season, at least compared to last year, but you can already see the price going up," says Gerard Sevenhuijsen of Tuindersbelang, a Dutch organisation active in representing red and white cabbage on the marketplace. "The range, by the way, has lessened somewhat in surrounding countries."

The price of both the Danish as well as the red cabbage has been hovering around the 20-cent mark in the past two weeks. Gerard expects this price to last, at least for a while longer. "Right now we are mostly selling in Europe, but there's some produce heading to Asia. You can pretty much count on the Far East to buy all year round, be it that quantities differ. Eastern Europe isn't really buying at the moment."
