The EU is going to lay down stricter rules for growing sprout vegetables. This should prevent incidents like the EHEC-epidemic last year. Last Monday the Permanent Committee for Food Chains passed a package of measures which had been proposed by the European Commission. They will be enforced in the short term.
License
In the future all sprout vegetable growers must have a license, supplied by the national government. This can not be done until experts have checked whether or not the companies meet EU hygiene regulations.
